Joseph Marano is an associate attorney at Layser & Freiwald. As a trial lawyer, Mr. Marano represents individuals and their families in catastrophic personal injury litigation, handling a wide range of cases, including products liability, medical malpractice, civil rights, premises liability and other complex personal injury and wrongful death actions.

Although he represents plaintiffs exclusively, Mr. Marano has also had experience during his career as a defense attorney. This varied experience allows Mr. Marano to approach a case with an understanding of each side=s perspective. Mr. Marano also has experience in appellate advocacy, including the published decision of Thermal C.M. Services, Inc. v. Penn Made Dairy Products, 831 A.2d 1189 (Pa. Super. 2003). In this case, Mr. Marano successfully argued against a compulsory arbitration clause in a construction contract.
Mr. Marano is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Mr. Marano has successfully tried multiple cases to verdict in both federal and state Court in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and has been featured in Pennsylvania’s Top Verdict Magazine. Mr. Marano’s experience includes litigation of personal injury, worker’s compensation, commercial disputes, estate issues, class actions, criminal matters and premises liability cases.
Mr. Marano is a certified mediator by the Camden County Superior Court and serves as a mediator in the Court of Common Pleas in Delaware County. He is an active member of the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations, the American Association for Justice, the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association and the New Jersey Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Marano was recognized by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers as a ARising Star,@ in 2010, 2011 and 2012 as published in Philadelphia Magazine. This distinction is received by only 2.5% of eligible attorneys.
Mr. Marano received a B.A. from Villanova University and a law degree from Rutgers University School of Law-Camden. After law school, Mr. Marano served as law clerk in the Superior Court of New Jersey. Mr. Marano has obtained a L.L.M. with honors in Trial Advocacy from Temple University’s Beasley School of law. Mr. Marano is a member of the faculty of the Temple University Beasley School of Law where he serves as an Adjunct Faculty member teaching Trial Advocacy. Mr. Marano has also served as an instructor for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA).
Mr. Marano a lifelong resident of South Philadelphia.
