Brain Cancer Cluster
In late-April, the firm filed suit on behalf of three next door neighbors in a small, lakeside residential development in the northern suburbs of Chicago, all of whom developed malignant brain cancer. In May, the firm filed actions on behalf of two additional residents of McCullom Lake Village, Illinois, who were diagnosed with malignant brain cancer just weeks earlier. A sixth brain cancer case involves a sheriff’s deputy who developed a rare brain cancer and who spent significant time in the Village.
The cases have been brought against Rohm and Haas Company and several other companies who dumped toxic chemical waste on their properties going back to the early 1960s. The chemical and other manufacturing facilities are located upstream from the homes where the cancer cases have been detected.
In addition to the individual brain cancer cases, the firm has filed a class action for medical monitoring and loss of property values on behalf of current and former residents of McCullom Lake Village. Partner Aaron Freiwald is leading the Ringwood trial team, assisted by associates Glenn Ellis and Patricia Giordano.
