GUIDANT

On June 17, 2005, Guidant Corp. issued a recall of some 40,000 implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICDs). This group of ICDs is believed to be defective because it can short circuit and fail function properly. The result can be fatal. One week later, on June 24, 2005, Guidant issued another recall for a further 60,000 units

There have been reports in the media suggesting that Guidant has known for some time of the potential problems with its ICDs. Guidant is a multi-billion dollar company based in Indianapolis.
